Birthday presentation copy signed on free front endpaper by 13 members of the SA (?) with handwritten text: "Unserem lieben Kameraden Franz Lademann zum 45 Geburtstag. Mit herzlichen Wünschen für die Zukunft. Warschau, 23.8. 1943." With sticker from the period of German bookseller on inside of front board: "Deutsche Buchhandlung Warschau, Krakauer Str. 1..." Frontispiece portrait of Hans Frank, who was the Generalgouverneur in occupied Poland. Foreword by the Gouverneur of the Distrikt Warschau, Dr. Ludwig Fischer (with his portrait). Early 1940's National Socialist propaganda publication on the 'rebuilding' of Warsaw and the 'improvements' of the district under German rule. Title translates to: "Warsaw under German Rule. Rebuilding of the Warsaw District by the Germans." To commemorate the second anniversary of the "Generalgouvernment Polen," 3000 copies of a book with the title of "Zwei Jahre Aufbauarbeit im Distrikt Warschau," were published. After selling out almost immediately, Governor Dr. Fischer decided to publish another completely revised work under a different title (Warschau unter deutscher Herrschaft. Deutsche Aufbauarbeit im Distrikt Warschau). Includes a 12-page section with text and illustrations on the Warsaw Ghetto. The author describes how after the takeover of the city Jews were found in filthy living conditions rampant with infectious diseases. In order to 'protect' the rest of the population and the German army, German authorities were 'forced' to create a separate "Wohnbezirk" (living district) for Jews to keep them from spreading diseases. The Warsaw Ghetto was established in October / November 1940 with over 400,000 Jews residing in an area of 1,3 square miles. Illustrated with b/w reproductions of photographs. Text in German.
