New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1951. First edition with Scribner's "A" on title-page. Hardcover. 4to. Unpaginated (30pp). Color illustrated paper-covered boards in original matching dust jacket. The story's main character Little Leo is the author himself. The tale begins in California, where Leo and his sister live in a ranch house with their parents. One day Leo's dad gave him a Indian Chief suit, which "enchanted his eyes and heart." When the family returns to Italy, Leo insists on wearing his Indian suit all the way. Upon arrival in the Italian village the local children excitedly join Leo in his imaginary play. Profusely illustrated with color reproductions of drawings by the author. Some offsetting on front endpapers due to laid-in newspaper article (on the author). Very good to near fine condition. Item #32891
