Woodstock, Vermont: Jewish Lights Publishing, 1990. Collector's Limited Edition. Hardcover. 1/500. Original tan cloth with burgundy lettering on spine. All edges gilt. Satin ribbon marker. Title page in Hebrew signed and numbered by Rabbi Lawrence Kushner. Book housed in its gold-stamped tan cloth slipcase. In this remarkable work, the author draws from ancient Judaic sources, weaving Talmudic commentary, Hasidic folk tales, and Kabbalistic mysteries around the letters. Each letter is illuminated and, together with Rabbi Kushner's delightful commentary, is presented in the author's original calligraphy. When first published in 1975 by Harper & Row, the book was described by Rabbi Nehemia Polen as "the first indigenous work of American Jewish spirituality." With that theme in mind, the editors have made every effort to have the Collector's Limited Edition reflect the best of American craftsmanship. Accompanying this stunning work is a specially designed print silkscreened under the author's direction by Jean Yves Noblet of Noblet Serigraphic, New York City. This magnificent 11" x 14" frameable print was silkscreened by hand in three colors and then was illuminated with gold stamping. Slipcase, binding, interior and print in as new condition. vg.
