La mano de Alemania en México
Mexico: Imp. J. Chavez y Hno. 1919. First edition. Hardcover. 12mo. 3/4 spotted calf over green cloth with gold lettering and borders on spine. Marbled endpapers. Ribbon marker. Original wrappers bound in. Fascinating work on the German intrigues in Mexico during WWI, intended to push the Mexican officials to make war against the United States. A lenghty section of the book deals with the Zimmermann Telegram (or Zimmermann Note) in which the German Ambassador to Mexico was instructed to approach the Mexican Government with a proposal for military alliance. He was to offer Mexico material aid in the reclamation of territory lost during the Mexican-American war. The Zimmermann telegram was intercepted and decoded by the British cryptographers. The revelation of its contents in the American press on March 1st caused public outrage that contributed to the U.S.'s declaration of war against Germany and its allies on April 6th, 1917. Pages age-toned throughout. Text in Spanish. Binding in fine condition, interior in good+ to very good condition. vg. Item #29213
