Else Lasker-Schüler (1869-1945) was a Jewish-German poet, prose writer, and dramatist. The author writes about the child experiences of her father and his 22 siblings in 1800's Westfalen. Else also wrote a play in 1932 with the title "Arthur Aronymus und seine Väter," which was banned by the National Socialists. In it, she foresaw the extermination of the Jews in Europe. Lasker-Schüler fled from the Nazi's and after a brief stay in Switzerland emigrated to Jerusalem. Text in German. Rear dj flap from original dust jacket laid-in. Some age wear, staining and creasing on wraps. Head and tail of spine chipped. Six-inch closed tear on page 61/62 crudely repaired with tape.
