Oral Literature and the Formula

Ann Arbor, MI: Center for the Coordination of Ancient and Modern Studies - The University of Michigan, 1976. First edition. Softcover. Small quarto. XVII, [1], 290pp. Original printed wraps. The present volume is a collection of essays, commentary, and discussion from one conference organized by the Center for Coordination of Ancient and Modern Studies. The conference on "Oral Literature and the Formula" was held in Ann Arbor in November, 1974. The purpose of the CCAMS is to argument and improve contacts between students of the ancient world (primarily the ancient Near East, Greece, and Rome) and devotees of everything modern (since the Renaissance). This endeavor has been guided by twin principles: "continuity," i.e., the ongoing and ever-renewed influence of the ancient world on the one we live in, and "comparability," the awareness that certain phases of the ancient experience have a special relevance to us just now, in our particular time and place. Minor rubbing and creasing along joints and edges of wraps. Slight soiling on half-title page. Wraps in overall good+, interior in very good condition. g. Item #27533
