Die Saho-Sprache. Erster Band : Texte der Saho-Sprache [FROM THE PERSONAL LIBRARY OF WOLF LESLAU]

Wien: Alfred Hölder, 1889. First edition. Hardcover. Octavo. VI, 315pp. Red cloth over paper covered boards with original front wrap pasted on front cover. Gold lettering on spine. Wolf Leslau's ex-libris on inside of front board. Original back wrap bound in. Scarce and fascinating work on the Saho language, a Cushitic language of Eritrea, spoken in the middle of the country. Their territory is bounded by the bay of Arafali in the east, the Laasi Ghedé valleys in the south, the Eritrea highlands to the west (Akele-Guzai, Shimezana). It borders Tigre on the west and its close relative Afar on the east. It has four main dialects: Toroa, Assaorta, Minifero, and Irob. It has about 200,000 speakers. It is so closely related to Afar that some regard them as dialects of a single "Saho-Afar language". Minor age-wear on binding with front wrap age-toned and slightly chipped. Former owner's stamp on front wrap and title-page. Text in German and Saho. Binding and interior in overall good+ to very good condition. vg. Item #27239
