Illustrated with twenty plates from original engravings by Bernhard Mannfeld (1848-1925), showing Frankfurt a. M., Mainz, Bacharach, Loreley, Oberlahnstein, Andernach, St. Apollinaris in Remagen, Am Lacher See, Altenahr, Der Rhein bei Rolandseck, Der Drachenfels, Aus dem Siebengebirge, Heisterbach im Winter, Godesberg, Parthie am alten Zoll in Bonn, Innerers des Bonners Münsters, Das Bonner Münster, Colenz am deutschen Eck, Koeln. Mannfeld was a German master-etcher with his work focusing on architectural images as well as landscape- and city views. Each etching protected by tissue guard. Includes 95 poems by writers such as Goethe, Heinrich Heine, Lord Byron, Carmen Sylva, Emanuel Geibel, Gustav Pfarrius, Alexander Kauffmann, Otto Roquette, Julius Wolff, Karl Simrock, and many others. Text in German, gothic script. Age wear, scuffing and some staining on binding. Head and tail of spine frayed, wear on corners. Creasing, some tearing and age toning to few tissue guards.
