Deckled page edges. 1918 publication by one of America's most important type designers looking at hand lettering and printing. Illustrated with 26 plates showing each letter of the alphabet in 15 different lettering styles. "This book has been set by Bertha M. Goudy at the Village Press, Forest Hills Gardens, New York, with types designed by the author, under whose supervision the book has been printed by William Edwin Rudge, New York City, October, 1918. The plates for the text illustrations and Alphabets were made by The Walker Engraving, Co., New York City." Small bookplate and signature of Joseph Francis Weiler on inside of front board. Blind stamp of "Zantzinger, Borie & Medary" on front flyleaf and half-title page. Some age wear on binding. Head and tail of spine slightly chipped. Binding in good, interior in very good condition. Two page publisher's prospectus of "The Alphabet" with title-page, two pages of text with woodcut initial, as well as sample page of G letter, laid-in.
