Stockholms Utställningen 1930. Officiellt Vyalbum

Stockholm: Frans Svanström & Co., 1930. First edition. Softcover. Oblong quarto. Unpaginated. Original string bound illustrated stiff paper wrappers. Pictorial title-page. The Stockholm Exhibition was a national exhibition of Swedish architecture, design and crafts designed to promote Functionalism . It was instigated by the Svenska Slöjdföreningen and the municipality of Stockholm. It lasted from 16 May to 29 September 1930 and received nearly four million visitors. The Exhibit had the unique significance of being a huge popular success by demonstrating not only a wider range of public building types but a broad image of urban totality and 'townscape' of seductive attraction: the waterside Corso with cafes, restaurants, exhibition galleries, houses and recreational episodes had all the virtues of the urban street or esplanade without traffic but with the stimulant stimulant of what Auden contemporaneously called a 'new style of architecture, a change of heart'. This work is the official album of this Exhibition, and displays 35 pages of b/w photographic reproductions. Each photographic reproduction has its own caption in Swedish, English, French and German. Some rubbing along joints of spine and edges of covers. Very minor age-toning along paper margin. Wrappers in overall good, interior in very good condition. g. Item #25984
