Two sets of 10 Ross Photo Filmcards (Foto Filmkarten) of Hertha Feiler (Ross # 742) & Charlotte Thiele (Ross # 714)
Ross-Verlag, ca. 1940. Ten (1 3/4" x 2 3/4") b/w reproductions of photographs each of actresses Hertha Feiler and Charlotte Thiele. Austrian actress Hertha Feiler (1916-1970) was the beautiful and charming wife of popular German actor Heinz Rühmann. Two photographs show Feiler with Rühmann, one on a small boat (most likely) on the Berlin Wannsee. Others are various headshots of her as well as scenes from movies with her leading man (unidentified). Small logo of Terra on bottom right corner of each card. Charlotte Thiele (1918-2004) was a German actress best known for her role in 1943's "Titanic." One photo shows Thiele with Hans Albers. Tobis emblem on lower right corner of each card. Photos rest in original paper-folder with oval cut-out on front. Cards like these were published from the 1920's through the 1940's by Ross-Verlag. The company was founded in 1912 by Heinrich Ross (1870-1954), and became well-known for their cards with portraits of leading actors/actresses of the time and postcards with scenes from popular films. From 1922-1934 Ross was an official of the Berlin-Neuköllner jüdischen (Jewish) Brüder Gemeinde. During the National Socialist regime the company was "aryanized" and integrated into Tobis Filmkunst. In 1938 Ross emigrated to the United States. A few years after the war the company was renamed UfA/Film-Foto. One of the publisher's photographers was Wanda von Debschnitz-Kunowski (1870-1935). Small stamp of "Hilde Störig" on folding flaps. Minor wear to paper-folders, photo cards in near fine condition. Scarce. vg. Item #25750
