This book begins with the initial adjustment of the new arrivals and then unrolls before us the subsequent economic, cultural and religious history of the immigrants and their descendants, focusing on their communal needs and their struggle to meet them. This study is profusely illustrated with numerous b/w photographic reproductions of portraits, views and documents. Very minor rubbing on wrappers.
