The Future of American Jew

New York: The Macmillan Company, 1948. First printing. Hardcover. Quarto. XX, 571pp. Original printed wrappers over red cloth, with gold lettering on spine. Fascinating work in which the author expresses his reconstructionist ideology which centred around the "concept of Judaism as a civilization". Kaplan, a critic of both Orthodox and Reform Judaism, believed that Jewish practice should be reconciled with modern thought, a philosophy reflected in his Sabbath Prayer Book. Some age wear on wrappers with head of spine partly chipped and some creasing at lower edge of front cover. The original New York Times's review of the book is taped on free front endpaper. Some occasional pencil underlinings. Wrappers in overall good, binding and interior in very good to near fine condition. vg. Item #25078
