Handbook for the Cecil B. DeMille Production "Samson and Delilah"

NP, October 21, 1948. Softcover. 4to. Unpaginated [203]pp. Yellow wraps bound with brass plated fasteners. Rare research handbook used in the production of Cecile B. DeMille's 1949 motion picture "Samson and Delilah", starring Victor Mature and Hedy Lamarr. The film was an instant success, taking in $ 11,000,000 at the box office, which made it the top grossing film of 1950. DeMille's epic is known for the beauty of its leading lady and the spectacular toppling of the temple of Dagon. Years later audiences were reminded of the film when DeMille had a cameo in Billy Wilder's "Sunset Boulevard." In a scene of Wilder's picture, Norma Desmond meets with DeMille on a film set at Paramount Studios. The film being shot was Samson and Delilah. Slight creasing and soiling on wraps. Small chip on top edge of front wrapper. Overall very good condition. Handbooks such as these were indispensable in pre-production and during the shoot in order to make the film as 'historically accurate' as possible. "The purpose of this handbook is to give readily accessible information on a selection of subjects." Rare piece of Hollywood memorabilia. vg. Item #24733
