Glocke u. Göttsch 1. März 1888 - 1913

NP: Self-Published, 1913. First edition. Hardcover. Folio. Unpaginated. [27] leaves. Original full brown leather over wood, with bevelled edges and gold-stamped lettering on front board. All edges gilt. Decorative endpapers. Rare work published to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the foundation of the Glocke u. Göttsch's architectural bureau. It is profusely illustrated with 28 original mounted b/w photographs depicting 27 of the 188 buildings built by the company between 1888 and 1912. Each photograph is mounted on heavy cardstock, and has its handwritten caption on the opposite page along with the listing of the other buildings built during the same year. It is interesting to note that Glocke und Göttsch's business increased considerably from 1905 on. The buildings built or remodelled ranged from factories to individual villas, and from City halls to Chemical plants. Photographs by W. Köhnen & Sohn. This rare document sheds an interesting new light on the architecture of Wilhelmine Germany, at a time when this country was divided between "modernists" and "anti-modernists." Eventually the first group would prevail, thus setting the foundations of the Bauhaus architecture. Some age wear on binding with rubbing along edges and corners. Very minor and sporadic foxing on outer margin of pages. Text in German. Binding in overall good+, interior in very good to near fine condition. g+ to vg. Item #24637
