Mockba (Moscow): ca. 1957. 4" x 8 1/4" original Russian mailing envelope. Inside of folding-flap on top of envelope with name of stadium printed in Russian, German, English, French, and Spanish. When opened the envelope displays a pop-up color illustration of the Luzhniki (formerly Lenin) Stadium in Moscow. The stadium officially opened on July 31st, 1956. The following year the final of the Ice Hockey World Championship between Sweden and the Soviet Union was held there. The game was attended by a crowd of 55,000, setting a new world record at that time. Other major events held at the venue were the 1980 Summer Olympics, the 1999 UEFA Cup final, as well as the 2008 Champions League final. Color illustration of small emblem, address handwritten in blue ink, and rubber cancellation stamp on front of envelope. Two-inch and one-inch closed tear on fold of flap. Some creasing and staining on front and back of envelope. Handwritten message "Viele, viele Grüsse aus dem herrlichen Moskau, Euer Frank," on lower margin inside.
