Decorative endpapers. First edition of this scarce and fascinating book, being Morais' most famous work. It is one of the largest local Jewish histories ever written and the most significant up to that time. Ex-library copy with library stamps on text block edges and fly leaf. Library identification sticker at bottom of spine. Library pocket on free front endpaper. Edgewear on binding with spine worn along joints and badly taped to the boards. Corners bumped and rubbed, and slight discoloration and soiling on covers. Spine and back board detached from book block but still attached with front cover. Ex-libris of Justin Turner at rear of front board. Previous owner's inscription on fly leaf. Inner half of title-page taped, with slight chipping along edges. Minor age-toning along paper margin.
