Binding protected by modern mylar. Color illustrated title-page. Vaad Hatzalah (Committee for Rescuing) was an organization to rescue European Jews from the Holocaust as well as to help the survivors in their attempt to create a new life after the destruction of their families, institutions and communities. It was founded in 1939 by the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada. Illustrated with reproductions of photographs in duo tone & b/w and reproductions of letters by the Department of State, War Department, Navy Department, and others. It shows newly created schools and institutions along with the survivors and their leadership in the German and Austrian DP camps circa 1946-48. It is the best photo-illustrated documentary history of these displaced persons and the camps they lived and worked in. Age wear and some staining on binding. Library stamp on top margin of title-page and on last leaf. Age toning to outer edges of interior pages. Text in German, Hebrew and English. Overall very good condition. vg. Item #24107
