Illustrated woodcut engraving on each title-page. Fascinating and scarce monthly newspaper published in Zittau (Saxony), and bringing news from all over Europe. This volume contains the complete 36 issues published between January 1799 and December 1801. As such, the Staats-Courier is a truly amazing witness to war-torn Europe. Some of its dispatches reveal news such as Napoleon Bonaparte's coup d'état, and the stunning French military victories that followed (Hohenlinden, Marengo). 8-page supplement on the signing of the Luneville treaty, which put an end to the war between the French republic against Austria and its allies, bound in at rear. Some edge wear on binding with heavy rubbing along edges, corners and joints. Rear board and spine detached from book block, but front board holding. Contemporary previous owner's inscription on free front endpaper. Blind stamp on fly leaf. Minor sporadic foxing throughout. Page 71/72 of the may 1801 issue partly missing. Text in German, gothic script. Binding in overall poor, interior in good to very good condition. fair. Item #23986
