Corps Mémorable

Paris: Pierre Seghers, 1960. Reprint. Hardcover. 35, [3]pp. Original illustrated and pictorial wrappers over stiff paper covered boards. Pictorial endpapers. Half-title and title-page in red and black lettering. Fascinating work being a compilation of "sensual poems" by Paul Eluard, accompanied with 12 b/w photographic reproductions of nude women in the ocean. Remarkable work, not only because of the interplay between Éluard's poems and Clergue's nude photographs, but also because of Picasso's cover design, and especially the fact that this was to be the first book of nude photography that was allowed to be sold publicly in Paris. Some age-wear on wrappers with slight age-toning and minor rubbing along edges. Slight age-toning along paper margin. Wrappers and interior in overall good to very good condition. g. Item #23732
