Leipzig: NP, ca. 1900. Hardcover. Early 20th century Richter Tangram set (Anker Steinbau puzzle). The tangram (seven boards of skill) is a dissection puzzle consisting of 7 flat shapes, called tans, which are put together to form shapes. The objective is to form a specific shape using all 7 pieces, which may not overlap. Originating in China, the game became popular in Western society in the early 19th century. The 7 stones are resting in a 3" x 3 3/4" illustrated cardboard box. Stones were made of clay, sand and linseed oil. Includes original 48 page booklet with various patterns as well as one leaf with instructions in German, as issued. Minor age wear on box., slight scratching on stones. Richter & Co. are famous for their Anchor Stone Building sets. Very good condition. vg. Item #23181
