Berlin: Buchhandlung "Jalkut" 1925. First printing. Softcover. 4to. 320pp. Gray paper wrappers with black print on front and spine. This in memoriam publication was overseen by a committee of M. C. Aleynikov, IU. D. Brutskus, S. K. Gepshteyn, A. M. Gol'dshteyn, V. E. (Ze'ev) Zhabotinsky (Jabotinsky), S. D. Zal'tsman, I. A. Naydich', I. A. Rozov, and M. A. Soloveichik, all close friends and colleagues of Idelsohn (1865-1921). Idelsohn was an important Russian Zionist publicist, one of the executives of the World Zionist Organization, the ideological founder of the Gelsingforsskaya Program of Russian Zionists, the chief editor of Rassvet (Sunrise) Magazine, Yevreyskaya Zhizn' (Jewish Life) Magazine, as well as the London-based Haolam (in which Idelsohn started writing and publishing in Hebrew). This volume, written in Russian, contains a personal biography, along with a number of essays by Idelsohn's friends, including Jabotinsky, who describes Idelsohn as "a unique mentor who led an entire generation of Russian Jewish intelligentsia out of a blind alley, taught them to hold on to heights, taught them to see to the horizon and past it, taught them to perceive their nationality and its movements in context of the development of the rest of the world." The volume also contains ten of Idelsohn's own essays, the last one entitled "M'estyechko" ("My Little Place,") an incomplete, previously unpublished piece originally written in Hebrew, about Idelsohn's small-town birthplace. The volume is intersperced with a number b&w photographic reproductions, depicting Idelsohn alongside of Jabotinsky and other seminal Zionist leaders and thinkers. Chipping and front cover starting on bottom of spine, creasing along front edge, top corners bumped. Overall in good condition. g. Item #22288
