Paris: Calavas Freres Editeurs, ca. 1875-80. Large quarto. Unpaginated. Original marbled paper boards rebacked in red cloth with gold lettering on spine. Binding protected by modern mylar. Marbled front and rear endpapers. Total of 560 original French nude photographs featuring children, women, and men in allegorical poses. Each photographic plate contains 16 photographs which are mounted on 38 sheets of heavy card stock. 7 plates display Children nude studies, 4 combine children and women. 12 are women nude studies, 2 combine women and men. 11 display male nude studies, 1 plate displays hand studies. 1 combines hands, legs and feet studies. Heavy age wear on boards, corners and edges. Slight rubbing to head and tail of spine, and along outer margin of free front endpaper. Sporadic foxing and staining throughout, not affecting the photographs. Sunning on outer margin of each photographic plate. Pages bowed. Some pages loose.
