Inside of front and back boards in leather with gold-floral stamped doublures. Raised bands. Top edge gilt. Fore-and bottom page edges untrimmed, as published. Dark blue silk moire free front and rear endpapers. Ribbon markers. Each volume with frontispiece, protected by captioned tissue guard and title-page vignette of Victor Hugo. All illustrated with b/w and sepia-tone reproductions of plates in gravure from photos, etchings from paintings and drawings, as well as some steel engravings by artists such as A. Maignau, A. Michelana, Lucien Melingue, Adrien Moreau, Geoffroy, E. Bordes, Francois Flameng, J. Garnier, A. Gues, E. de Liphard, Hugrel, J. Aubert and many others. All plates protected by printed tissue-guards. Minor water staining on top edge of few pages in Dramas, Vol. I. Front board of Les Miserables, Vol. II almost detached but still holding. Chipping to head and tail of spine of some volumes. Rubbing to some of the raised bands, otherwise minor age wear and scuffing to binding. Wonderful 30 volume set of the works by Victor-Marie Hugo, the 19th century French poet, playwright, essayist, novelist, statesman, visual artists and human rights activist.
