Esquiador en el fondo de un pozo

Mexico City: La Coleccion Jumex, 2006. Limited edition. Hardcover. 1/2000 unnumbered. Quarto. Original illustrated dustjacket over illustrated paper-covered boards with black lettering on cover and spine. Blue endpapers with sealed, illustrated pocket on inside back cover. "Esquiador en el fondo de un pozo is an aphorism of Henri Michaux that has no single explanation. It could be interpreted as a fable; clever, amusing, bizarre or even an incongruous image. As such, this exhibition combines various elements in a labyrinth filled with odd twists and turns. The complexity of the space is disconcerting to those who enter, while at the same time playful. Every labyrinth is based on something and in this case, the thread throughout our labyrinth is "the drawing," it functions as a guide through a journey based on ideas and links between the pieces. While respecting the foundations of publishing, we tried to break with the norm and create a new way to present contemporary art. The works of art take center stage but among them or even possibly hidden away, are pages filled with poetry, e-mails, floor plans, instructing sheets; the texts, theoretical and philosophical, allow for multiple interpretations of the works as well." The exhibition took place in Ecatepec, Mexico in 2002. Profusely illustrated with reproductions of color photographs, b/w drawings, many of them on transparent paper. Text in Spanish, French and English. Binding with scuff on back cover, otherwise fine condition. vg. Item #21462
