8vo. viii. 251pp. Gilt illustrated green cloth with gold lettering to spine. Work on the family as an agency of education, with chapters on marriage, kinship, parental and filial relations et.al. Written by renowned Sociologist Arthur James Todd, a Yale graduate who headed the Chair of Sociology at Northwestern between 1926-1943. This book was written in 1913, while he taught at the Department of Sociology at the University of Illinois. With bibliography and index at end. Minor age wear to binding, with minor browning throughout. Overall good condition. g. Item #20372
Henry Slonimsky was born in Minsk on October 9, 1884. After coming to the United States in 1890, he studied under Hermann Cohen and earned a Ph.D. at the University of Marburg in 1912. After teaching philosophy at various US- universities for a few years, Slonimsky joined the faculty of the Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati (1922-1924). In the same year (1924) he went on to the Jewish Institute of Religion in New York, where he later became dean of the school. In 1952, Slonimsky retired from this position in 1952. Henry Slonimsky was a noted scholar. In his role as dean of the Jewish Institute of Religion he influenced many American Rabbis. Furthermore, he contributed to the development of philosophical thought and writings in North America and beyond. A collection of his writings was published as Essays in 1967. Henry Slonimsky died in New York City on November 12, 1970. [Source: American Jewish Archives]
