German translation of the seminal work of Saadiah ben Yosef Gaon (882 or 892–942), a renowned Sephardic Rabbi, Jewish Philosopher and exegete. Emunoth ve-Deoth ("Kitab al-Amanat wal-l'tikadat" in the original Arabic) is the first systematic presentation of the dogmas of Judaism and their philosophic foundation. It is often assumed that Saadia followed the rules of and based his thesis on the Mutazilah, the rationalistic dogmatic school of Islam. This German translation is based on both the original Judeo-Arabic and the standard Hebrew translation (Ibn Tibbon).
