This set is a collection of the various works of Vissarion Grigoryevich Belinsky, (1811 - 1848) was a Russian writer and critic, often called the “father” of the Russian radical intelligentsia. As critic for four major reviews he became the principal champion of the realistic and socially responsible new Russian literature. His emphasis on the use of literature to express social and political ideas is considered the basis of Soviet literary criticism. Among the authors whose talents he recognized and encouraged were Gogol, Lermontov, and Dostoyevsky. Belinksy lived in poverty and died at 37 of tuberculosis. Entire set is in Russian. Age wear and scuffing to boards and spines. Small white cataloging label on the bottom of each spine. Volumes 6, 11 and 12 are missing their spines. Rear board of volumes 6 and 12 detached but present. Exteriors are in overall good condition, interiors in overall very good condition. g. Item #19172
