Elephant folio. 24 reproductions of woodcut prints & text book for prints resting in blue cloth portfolio with folding flaps, illustrated cover plate and ties. Typewritten title and library inventory number taped across head and tail of spine of portfolio. Some scuffing, sunning and discoloration to cloth. Library bookplate on inside of front cover. Contains 24 stunning reproductions by the Adachi Institute that were re-cut from original woodcuts. 22 plates in color, 2 in b/w, 3 of the plates are large fold-outs. All plates on folding paper-mat with cut-out exposing image, small paste-down sticker on margin with title of plate and name of artist. Double-fold with title-page & list of plates. Small stamp of library on back of each plate.
Text volume is in original wrappers with glassine jacket. Heavy chipping and tearing on glassine. Library bookplate on verso of free front endpaper. Usual age toning to pages. Small library stamp on free rear endpaper. Text by Ichitaro Kondo. Notes on Kabuki Subjects by Teruji Yoshida, English translation by Shigetaka Kaneko. Five pages on the history of Ukiyo-e, rest of the work has detailed notes on the prints in the plates volume. A magnificent portfolio with vibrant woodcuts. Overall very good condition. vg.
