On the author (from public domain encyclopedia):
Johann Valentin Meidinger (1756 - 1822) was a German scholar of Romanic languages and author of a French grammar [this book]. Meidinger taught French and Italian in Frankfurt am Main. Other than his French grammar, Meidinger also published a book on German grammar in French and an Italian grammar.
Interesting side note: Since Meidinger used popular anecdotes in the appendix of his "French grammar", a "Meidinger“ later signified an old anecdote.
