(8)178pp.; (6)326pp. Contemporary leather with gilt decorated spine. Raised bands. This is the best known work of John Lightfoot (1602-1675). It deals with Hebrew Sources and the Talmud in both a Jewish and Christian context. Lightfoot was a Presbyterian clergyman and Hebrew scholar. In his age, he is credited to have opened the "fountains of the Talmudical learning" to the modern world. Some scuffing, abrasion and wear to boards. Boards slightly bowed. Corners bumped and worn. Inscription on title page. Faded decorated page edges. Light water staining in first section not affecting text. Sporadic worming starting on page 92 throughout back board. Text in Latin, Hebrew and Greek. Very moderate age wear to binding. Interior in very good condition. g. Item #11980
