Nachman Krochmal was an important figure in the Eastern European Haskalah best known for his “Moreh Nebuhei Ha-Zaman.” As a religious moderate he attempted to reconcile 19th century thought, particularly that of Hegel, with traditional Judaism. Also included are letters and Krochmal's abridgement of the biblical commentary of Abraham ibn Ezra. Illustrated with four b/w facsimile photographs of Krochmal's home, his grave, a plate commemorating his death and a letter in his handwriting. Facsimile of his signature from his original stamp on front endpaper. Former owner's bookplate inside front cover. Backstrip split at edges. Scuffing and age wear to spine. Spine split along boards. Binding has been crudley reinforced with masking tape on front and rear endpapers. Rear endpapers detached but present. Book is in Hebrew. Exterior in fair, interior in good condition. fair.
