Although the first half of the 20th century in Korean history is marked by the grave and painful experience of the Japanese occupation between 1910 and 1945, this period also saw the Japanese carrying out the first modern archaeological excavations of ancient Korean sites (royal tombs, temples, ceramic kilns) and preservation of their artifacts. Inaugurated in 1915, the Government General Museum was intended to gather and exhibit some of the best material found during these activities.
Published between 1929 and 1943, the Museum bulletin featured some of the best pieces exhibited within its wall. This 17th volume (and last of the series) was published in 1943 and reproduces in photogravure twelve plates showing artifacts selected from the collections made during the fiscal year 1942 (jars, vases, pots, necklaces, earrings, etc..).
Each photogravure plate is facing its captioned tissue-guard made of rice paper.
Wrappers age-toned along edges. Closed tear along tail of spine. Some age-toning and clear water-staining along fore-edge of very first and very last leaves (not affecting lettering nor images). Text and captions in Japanese. Wrappers in overall good- to good, interior in good to very good condition. g- to vg. Item #41060
