Oscar Wilde: A Study

Frontispiece with tissue guard. Considered one of the best accounts of Wilde's later days, this is the first appearance in English (Mason # 652). It appeared first in L'Ermitage in 1902. Robert Sherard attacked Gide in his book "André Gide's Wicked Lies about the Late Oscar Wilde" (1933). The volume included a scornful letter from Alfred Douglas charging Gide of misrepresentation. After studying the evidence James D. Griffin concluded Gide to be a "keen observer whose accounts are of inestimable value." Illustrated with a cartoon published by Messrs. Shrimpton (frontispiece), two b/w portrait photographs of Wilde, his grave and a cover of the magazine "The Woman's World" which was edited by Oscar Wilde between 18887 and 1889. Spine and edges of binding lightly sunned. Endpapers slightly browned. Block uncut at foredge and bottom. Light foxing at foredge. Binding in overall good+, interior in very good condition. g+ to vg.
