The set was published by the Cotta'sche Buchhandlung from 1867–1876. Rare as complete set. Text in German, Gothic script. Leather with some scuffing and chipping along edges, Ex-Libris of L. Ricard-Abenheimer on inside front covers of first 16 volumes, red and black with Putten head, and modern design Ex-Libris of Eugen Katz in last volume. Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller (1759–1805) was on of the great German poets and playwrights of all time. Also known as a philosopher, physician, scientist and historian Schiller struck up a productive though complicated friendship with the influential and famous Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Their intense relationship and exchange discussing issues concerning aesthetics led to a period that now often is referred to as Weimar Classicism.
