Rabbi Isaac M. Wise was a leader of the Reform movement in nineteenth century America. Founded Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati. The preface is a good example of nineteenth century American Reform ideology, a period in which Reform Jews, mostly German immigrants, attempted to integrate into American society.
