It also won the German Lindenberg medal for conspicuous service to philately. The work covers 258 major varieties of Japanese postage stamps from 1871-1927. It also looks at some Korean and Taiwanese stamps. Profusely illustrated with duo tone and b/w photographic reproductions. "Of The Postage Stamps of Japan and Dependencies one hundred autographed and numbered copies have been printed on hand-made, vellum paper; and thirty copies on ordinary paper for review purposes." This set is one of the thirty. Some age wear, scuffing and some staining on bindings. Corners slightly frayed. Hinges starting. Vol. I with 1/2" x 1/2" puncture (frayed) and two surface cuts on front board. Binding in Vol. I in fair, Vol. II good+, interior of both volumes in very good condition. Scarce limited edition, printed on regular paper. One of the rarest works on philately.Laid-in is an 8-page typewritten astrological reading for the author Alphonse Marie Tracey Woodward. Cover letter written on the letterhead of the "Grand Hotel de L'Europe, Limited, Singapore, dated 21st September, 1912 and signed by astrologer (?) Leons Lendal (or Leon Slendal?) WITH a typewritten 8-page foreword from the reprint edition of this work, as well as 16 pages written in cursive (dated July 10th, 1910) of an astrological reading but not clear for whom.
