1888-89 Oblong quarto. Unpaginated. Original full cloth with blind-stamped borders on front and back covers, and gold-stamped borders and lettering on front board and spine. Decorative endpapers in floral motifs. Rare and fascinating early photographic work on Palestine, profusely illustrated with 100 phototype prints. Each print faces an explicative text. All photographs were taken during a 6 month journey undertaken by MM. Thévoz on February 22nd 1887. During their complicated journey, they faced the hostility of the authorities, and sometimes of the population itself. Minor age wear on binding with head and tail of spine slightly rubbed, and moderate shelf wear along edges. Corners rubbed. Sporadic foxing on very first and last pages (not affecting text). Minor soiling on outer margin of a few prints (not affecting images). Text in French. Binding and interior in overall very good condition.
