Elephant folio. Unpaginated, 16 loose color plates (1 mounted, 15 matted). Original 1/3 cloth over decorative paper covered boards, with repeated star of David motif in silver, and an enlarged image of the artist's bold signature in silver on a silver and blue covered label. Laid in text booklet illustrated with a b/w tipped-in portrait of Isidor Kaufmann by Hans Temple with list of plates, along with a 1-page introduction signed by Dr Chajes. An admirer of Kaufmann's works, Vienna's Chief Rabbi Dr. Chajes wrote a warm and poetic foreword to this 1925 portfolio of the artist's phototypes in which he praised the artist for his mastery and insight. This magnificent work is profusely illustrated with 15 matted color plates and 1 mounted color plate, as issued. Through his powerful and colorful work, Kaufmann brings to life portraits of people and scenes in the Viennese ghetto, thus confirming the artist's reputation as one of the great portraitists of his day. Rear of front cover and flaps of portfolio slightly soiled. Outer flap of portfolio detached but present.
