Oblong 8vo. Album-like binding consists of green boards with gray string through black cloth-covered spine. 11original water color scenes telling in fairy tale fashion an original self-invented story entitled "Der Kampf mit dem Drachen" (Battle with the Dragon). Title in black ink encircled by a snake on multi-shaded yellow inside covers. The story is told in 4 lines of rhymes surrounded by the same decorative borders on each opposite page from the painting. The decorative borders suggests the 1920s. The colors of all scenes are strong, bright, and well preserved, and each detail mentioned in the story is clearly represented. A little dwarf by the name of Pumpel is bored and decides to go out into the world. He comes to an inn run by a landlady named Unke, a frog. At dinner, surrounded by other frogs, he is told about the evil snake who for years has been keeping a beautiful flower fairy imprisoned. They all go out to fight the monster, the bees sting him and the frogs splash water like never before, and he eventually retreats. The princess Pumpelione wakes up, there is a wedding and Pumpel takes his bride home. Edges and corners worn, very little foxing and occasional water color staining on text page. Good condition.
