"This volume contains thirty-five Syrian Popular Songs, most of which are Mr. Maloof's own compositions and some of which are original arrangements of Syrian airs which have heretofore always been played by ear but never actually put into music form. ..most of all the Syrian music is written in either 2-4 or 4-4 time, and with the exception of a few pieces, is all suggestive of a certain dance rhythm. Owing to the fact that the Syrian language reads from right to left, it has been necessary for Mr. Maloof to write the words in English with Syrian pronunciation, and for those who are unable to read English, he has inserted the words in Arabic text at the bottom of each page corresponding with the English version...most of the Syrian songs begin with the chorus instead of the verse as is customary in other music and in many cases the verse and chorus are alike." (The Publishers). Some age wear, scuffing and staining on binding. Minor staining to margins of few pages, tiny closed tear on fore-edge of page 64 & 65. Tight copy in overall very good condition. Scarce.
