Consists of 5 parts with one text part and 4 portfolios of over 125 original full-page drawings, woodcuts and sketches [and additional in-text-illustrations], protected by tissue guards.The illustrations show Olympic disciplines like track and field, swimming, boxing, cycling etc. The entire work is housed in original cotton rag printed wrappers. In two slipcases bound in mottled beige cloth, titled: "Le Sport" and "Suites des Oeuvres" on spine. Seated within box in matching binding. The five sections are as follows:1) 120 pages of text by Giraudoux, with in-text eaux-fortes dessin-engravings by Segonzac, printed on Imperial Japan paper. Additional 2-page sketch and drawing by Beltrand.The chapter are as follows:- Propos généraux sur le sport -Religion et sport -Peuples et intellectuels ;-Variations-Champions et records -Denombrement du sport en France -Amateurs et professionnels -Jeux Olympiques-Paris sportif Colophon and index at end.2) The series of 10 Eaux-fortes engravings by Segonzac only appear in the 27 copies. [see above] Printed on "Japon Ancien".3) Series of fifteen Eaux-fortes engravings by Segonzac, printed on "Vieux Japon".4) Series of 50 Pre-Champleve [Champlevage] Woodcuts by Beltrand, printed on Rives. 5) Series of [the same] 50 Woodcuts by Beltrands, printed on Chiffon des Rives.Text in French. In near fine condition.
From the colophon: "Il a ete tire de ce livre:27 exemplaires sur Japon Imperial, comprenant chacun un dessin original inedit d'A. Dunoyer de Segonzac, et une suite de dix eaux-fortes sur Japon Ancien, non parues dans le livre. Ils comportent, en outre, une suite des eaux-fortes de l'ouvrage sur vieux Japon, ainsi qu'un suite des bois sur chiffon de Rives, et une suite des bois avant champlevage." [27 copies, printed on Imperial Japan paper, including an original drawing of A. Dunoyer de Segonzac, and a series of ten engravings [eaux-fortes] on Japan Ancien, not issued in the [other editions of the] book. Also includes another series of etchings on Japan Ancien, as well as a series of of woodcuts on Chiffon des Rives, and a series of woodcuts in original condition [before champleve]."
