The Walt Disney Concert Hall [SIGNED].
Gehry, Frank.
Publisher Information: Los Angeles Circa Editions 2003 1/100 copies. Folio. Portfolio of Frank Gehry's process sketches of The Walt Disney Concert Hall with 10 signed mixed-media prints: silk screens on handmade Gampi paper applied to Rives BFK with chine colle technique. The prints are housed in a stainless steel & wood box, the top of which bears a stunning laser-cut drawing of the Concert Hall etched into the same stainless steel used to clad the exterior of the building. The box, designed and signed by Gehry, is ready for installation on a wall. The images are 16 x 18, on 18 x 20 inch paper. Each print is signed by Gehry and numbered on recto in pencil. The drawings represent various points of view and illustrate different concepts. For example, a series of images on one of the prints illustrates the acoustic principal which drove the shape of the interior performance space: a shoe box. There are three text pages: title, artists statement, which articulates the challenge of protecting the spontaneity of the architectural design throughout production, and the colophon. A beautiful set of prints by the Canadian-born architect. "Over the years, Gehry has moved away from a conventional commercial practice to become an artistically directed atelier. Instead of creating buildings, he creates ad-hoc pieces of functional sculpture." The Walt Disney Concert Hall is considered to be his second most important building to date after The Guggenheim Bilboa and he considers it his first major project in his own home town. As new.
